Syria’s hit list sends Lebanese lawmakers abroad to seek safety

Beirut - About 20 pro-government Lebanese
lawmakers have temporarily left the conflict-ridden country this summer
apparently seeking safety abroad amid mounting security threats and the

According to an Associated Press count of legislators who have left
Lebanon, more than two dozen, many from the leading majority party
bloc, have flown out of the politically divided country over the past
10 days.

Lebanon: Lebanese troops kill 6 militants near Tripoli

QALAMOUN:
Lebanese soldiers killed six suspected Islamist militants Thursday in a
raid on a cave the men were allegedly using as a hideout. Not far from
the scene of the raid, low-level fighting between the army and Fatah al-Islam militants holed up at the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp continued. No casualties had been reported late Thursday.

UN blames Israel, Iran, Syria for south Lebanon truce failure

Beirut- Almost a year since Israel went to
war with Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon, UN chief Ban Ki-moon
on Thursday deplored the failure to arrive at a permanent ceasefire.

In his fourth report since Security Council resolution 1701 was
adopted last August to end the conflict, the secretary general also
lamented the lack of progress in obtaining the release of abducted
Israeli soldiers and in securing an end to Israeli incursions into
Lebanese airspace.

Lebanese DM: 300 Islamist militants killed or wounded

Beirut – The funerals of 16 militants
killed in Nahr el-Bared were delayed because the Governments in the
Middle East region want to inspect the bodies before burial to
determine their nationalities.

of the terrorists killed in Lebanon are neither Palestinian nor
Lebanese, but a mix of Islamists from as far as Bangladesh in the East
to Morocco in the west.

Some 300 Islamic militants have been killed or wounded in the
month-long battle with Lebanese troops in a Palestinian refugee camp,
leaving only a few dozen fighters still hiding in the besieged camp,
Defense Minister Elias Murr (pictured right) said Tuesday.

News Lebanon: Siniora: We want Lebanon as a nation, not a battlefield

Paris- Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad
Siniora said Wednesday that Syria was sending weapons to Palestinian
refugee camps in Lebanon and vowed to bring up the issue before the
Arab League.

“In recent weeks, ammunition, weapons and fighters have been brought to the camps,” Siniora told reporters on a visit to France.

Siniora added that he had asked the United Nations to renew the
mandate of international peacekeepers in his country, despite an attack
last weekend that killed six members of the force.

“I am in no position to tell now” who was behind the Sunday car
bombing in southern Lebanon that killed three Spaniards and three
Colombians, Siniora told a news conference, adding that the
investigation was continuing.
