_41436743_beirutafp416.jpgJERUSALEM, Dec 29 (Reuters) - A retired Israeli general who investigated the armed forces’ performance during the Lebanon war on Friday criticised commanders for poor organisation but stopped short of calling for the chief of staff’s resignation.The July-August assault on Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas drove them from Israel’s northern border but failed to retrieve two captive soldiers, prompting many Israelis to call for a purge of the top brass in hope of restoring a military edge.

Lebanon Middle East. Belgian soldiers wounded

Two Belgian soldiers on a mine-clearing operation in south Lebanon have been wounded after stepping on a cluster bomb, a UN spokesman has said. The injured troops are members of the UN’s peacekeeping force, Unifil, sent to Lebanon following the war between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas.

You see, my name is Ashraf Almoukdad from Houran Syria and I live in the beautiful New Zealand and my wife is from here.By: Ashraf Almoukdad, Ya Libnan Volunteer
Beirut & Damascus- I apologize about this question but this is what my wife asked me few days ago. Let me tell you the entire story.

 We have been married for 13 years and she has never said some thing like that before. She loved the fact I am Syrian and she is proud mother of 2 beautiful Syrian named boys. She even knows more about the tourist and religion sites in Syria than me. So what brought this about?

Lebanon Middle East Nabih Berrie to launch new initiative.

Speaker Nabih Berri will launch a new initiative in the near future aimed at ending the political standoff between the government and the Hizbullah-led opposition after a recent Arab League effort failed to resolve the crisis. Sources close to Berri told The Daily Star Thursday that the speaker - an ally of Hizbullah - and some of his senior aides are holding undisclosed meetings with various leaders from both camps to come up with an agreeable proposal.
